“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Matthew 14:28-31 NIV
Just like Peter in this story, oftentimes, we are distant from God. We can sense Him and know Him. Yet we are not sure of His presence. This is why we call out Him to show us, as Peter did when He said, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
In many of our circumstances, we are able to stay the course with Him on the water until we see the wind. The wind can be any number of things for us. It can be a distraction of the difficulties we are facing and the world telling us that our journey is impossible.
However, when we stay the course, Jesus is never far. In fact, this scripture affirms that. It says, “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.” The moment we see the wind we can still cry out and Jesus will immediately catch us.
This is how our faith can be fortified in the knowledge that He is near and He will never fail us. He will call us onto the water and we can stand firm in our path toward Him. Let us always remember that even when our faith falters He is immediately there.

A Prayer for Our Community:
Lord, Help us to stand strong in our faith and Your presence in our lives. We do not want to falter in our faith. We want to be made strong through this story of Peter. Always remembering that we can trust in our walk on the choppy water and crazy winds. Even more so help us to remember that You are there for us in the instant we call out to You. Amen.
