Having Peace Lets Us Sleep Through Our Storms

Having Peace Lets Us Sleep Through Our Storms

God gives us direction. We can trust it fully. On this day, Jesus told His disciples that they were going to the other side. Jesus intended for them to reach the other side; why would He allow them to drown? Surely Jesus, as God in flesh, knew what was to come and that is why He was sleeping. This could not be a more clear lesson in trusting our God. No matter what comes our way we can trust that if we have been set on a path by God we do not need to fear or worry. Instead we can live in consistent peace and sleep in our storms, just as Christ did.

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Mark 4:35-38 NIV

God will always come to our rescue. Even when we have not trusted in Him. We must remember that He is in control of everything. This story is an example of that. Even the wind and waves obey when He speaks. We can take this message to heart. When we remember that even the wind and waves obey when He speaks, we can be fortified with the trust we need to maintain our peace as we walk through storms in our lives. Whenever we have little faith He is still there for us, but our peace will not remain. We have no reason to fear when we have faith that God is in control. Let us hold onto this promise and walk in peace all our days.

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4:39-41 NIV

Considerations for your planner:

  • Are you standing in God’s direction for your life? Write down what direction you are going in and see if it is filled with peace. When it is peace you know it is God.
  • Can you remember a time God has come to your rescue even when you knew your faith was wavering? Write this time down and let it be a reminder that you can have faith in God no matter what.

A Story of Maintaining Peace:

I was able to help my two adult kids that live on their own with $100 each in groceries, but that left me short for my Thanksgiving dinner meal. I didn't want to tell them because they would have felt bad. So I prayed about it.

They are good kids, but are having a hard time right now. On a Monday, I got a call from my apartment management team that I was selected to receive a Thanksgiving dinner basket from the TSU law students. Since I had a turkey I received a ham, and in the basket was everything else I would need; including plates, forks and juice.

That was all GOD!!!
