He Speaks to Our Hearts

He Speaks to Our Hearts

What is there for us to do but to listen for His voice? Anything we do in life is pointless if we are not doing it with Him. Listening for His voice in all we do keeps us from doing busy work. When we focus on the pursuits of the world we become distracted and are taken away from seeking to hear from Him. Seeking to hear from Him is how we are careful in how we live. Every open door is not meant for us. Taking time to stop and pause to consult Him will do immensely more for our lives than continually moving into every venture the world presents to us. This is how we make the most of every opportunity, by pausing and considering what God has for us over what the world wants. It is only through Him that we can know what our lives are meant for.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV

Our heart is the reflection of our life. What we allow in our lives is what we allow into our hearts. The world would have us appropriate its ways, but we are set apart. We must live our lives set apart from the world. This is how we protect our hearts and thus our lives. We must reflect on who we are and what we do. We are the light that shines in the world for all to see Christ. The way we choose to live is the way our hearts will be shaped. Let our lives reflect hearts filled with love, so that others can be led to the Father that is ready to care for them.

As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.

Proverbs 27:19 NIV

Considerations for your planner:

  • How do you hear God’s voice? Write down the ways you have heard Him speak to you and remember those experiences as you learn to listen for Him more.
  • What do you fill your life with? Write it down. Is this how you want your heart to be reflected in the world?

A Story of Listening:

I remember when I was confused about hearing God’s voice. I thought it was perplexing to try to hear from Him. I would tell myself that the voice in my head was just me talking to me. I am not sure I knew what it took to hear Him.

Then I started to read the bible more frequently, listening to christian music and watching sermons. I wanted to fill my world with Him. I began to have an appetite for Him to speak into my life. I was open to His words and I sought them out. It is amazing what I could hear now that I was seeking His counsel.

I question myself less now. My life has been purified and my heart is open and free. I know when it is Him talking to me, because I feel my heart being tugged. My mind will try to get me to follow the logic of the world, but my heart trusts His direction. Following my heart leads to peace and joy. This is how I know it is Him.
