What Rules Your Heart?

What Rules Your Heart?

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:15 NIV

Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness.

Colossians 3:15 MSG

What rules in our hearts? Scripture is funny like that. It will oftentimes ask us the very questions we had not considered. When we ask ourselves these kinds of questions it forces us to look more deeply within to explore our own intentions.

How well do we know our own hearts? Scripture says that God knows our hearts better than we know our own. (Romans 8:27) It would stand to reason then that we would want to learn more about how we let peace fill or not fill our lives.

Do we feel called to peace? It says here that we are members of one body and called to peace. As we search our hearts, we are able to reconcile where there is misalignment in our ability to access what Christ has for us.

Knowing what Christ has for us takes learning His word. Accessing what Christ wants for us takes examining our hearts and allowing the Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf at every opportunity we can acknowledge needing Him.

Considerations for your planner:

  • Write down the things that rule your mind most days. Take a moment to see if those are the same things that rule your heart. Then invite God into the areas you know are in need of peace.

A Prayer for Our Community:

Father, help us to learn more about ourselves today. Promote in us a curiosity to learn more about who we are and why we operate the way we do. In this search of our own hearts let us draw closer to You to invite You into the spaces and places we need healing and guidance. We want to lean into the promise of peace in our hearts. Come rule our lives today and everyday. Amen.
