We should give thanks every moment of every day because of what Jesus did for us. Through God’s plan for our lives with the sacrifice of Christ we are able to have eternal life. Death no longer has a hold on us. Death is not final. This is all the reason to thank God! We are victorious with Him over a sin life that we could not be free of without this sacrifice. Christ's death gives us full access to peace, joy, and more life than we could imagine. We only need to choose gratitude and the perspective that comes with it to gain access to all that waits for us.
But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57 NIV
Our lives are an example of the gratitude we give to God. What words and actions are we choosing? When we are grateful for someone or something we go out of our way to show them and tell them. This is why it is so important to remember and accept all that God has done for us. It is when we are in constant remembrance of what He has been given to us without doing anything for it that we want to walk in the words and actions of gratitude. This is our daily calling. To walk in peace and allow our thankfulness for what we have through God, peace and happiness, show through us.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15 NIV
A Story of Walking in Gratitude:
I used to have a lot of resentment for my life. Both of my parents have been absent from my life for the majority of my life. My career went horribly wrong. Without getting into all the details, other not so great things happened to me along the way. I certainly didn’t feel grateful for any of it.
That is until I started building my relationship with God. My life is nothing like I thought it would be. I am a full time mom currently. I even used to resent becoming a full time mom, because I wasn’t ready to lose my career. Once I stopped focusing so much on me and more on God everything changed. Gratitude is my daily perspective now.
Making God the center of my life has given me peace I never thought possible. I hold no resentment for my past or current situations. Instead I find myself getting choked up for all that God has blessed me with. With God as the center of my life instead of me as the center I am able to see so much more beauty in everything. The weight of life has been lifted and the moment I feel the weight trying to bare down on me, I know exactly what I need, more God.
