Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Colossians 3:12-14 NIV
We are God’s chosen people. As His chosen people, we have a dress code. That dress code is compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
This dress code is not an easy one to follow living in this world. We are surrounded by the antithesis of these things. Yet we are not called to dress in this fashion by our powers alone.
God is our energy source. We must plug into Him all day, every day, in order to have the strength to walk in the wardrobe He has picked out for us. This kind of clothing is never ill fitting, rather it is tailored made for us.
In order for Him to tailor it to us we must let Him set our tempo so that we are able to be more obedient in each circumstance we find ourselves. It is only when we are available, flexible and present that we can dress as He has asked us to. In these things we are able to be quick to forgive and rooted in love.
Considerations for your planner:
- Have you ever considered these attributes as wardrobe you put on for the world to see? Write out what it would look like to have the world see these kinds of clothes on you.
A Prayer for Our Community:
God, Please help us to be obedient in the way You ask us to walk in the world. Help to get us dressed in the wardrobe You have picked out for us. Your tempo of life is better than any other tempo we could set for ourselves. Let us be reminded of this today and everyday, as our tempo is what often dictates how we respond and shows others what we are clothed in. Amen.
