I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 16:8 NIV
Are we keeping our eyes on God always and in all the things we do? It is our steady state to become distracted by the world around us. There are always so many things that call for our attention.
However, if we were able to keep all our attention on Him, how might our day be different? This scripture states that when we keep Him at our right hand, we will not be shaken. Are we even conscious of what we keep at our right hand?
In today’s world, the answer to that question is most likely our electronics. Our phones, tvs, computers, and tablets capture and hold our attention in as many ways as our minds dart in varying directions. We must learn to quiet our minds so that we can keep our eyes fixed on God.
Finding stillness and pause throughout our day's distractions can help us keep our eyes on the Lord. If we want Him to be at our right hand, so that we are not shaken by all that the world will hurl our way, we must create the habit of pause so that we can seek Him.
Considerations for your planner:
- What do you keep at your right hand? Write out all the distractions you face in your day and the places you can take pause to intentionally seek God.
A Prayer for Our Community:
Heavenly Father, Help us to become undistracted by this world and all the things in it. We want to be consumed by You. We want all that we do to be only for You. When we can live in this way we are able to be filled with peace and not be moved by what the world sees as impossible and difficult. We pray today to keep our eyes always on You. In Your name we pray. Amen.
