Joy Comes When We Ask for It

Joy Comes When We Ask for It

We do not have to live timidly in this life, waiting for good and joy to happen upon us. God wants us to be bold and ask for what we desire. Chief among the things we ask for should be joy. When we are bold in our asking we are bold in our faith. Trusting and believing in God to come through for what we have asked Him for. We can find immense joy in this way of doing things. Asking, seeking, and doing in His name is a joyous endeavor. He will overflow our lives with the joy of His giving when we reach out to Him.

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

John 16:24 NIV

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is integral to sharing God with others. We can give joy to those around us in our words and actions when we allow God to work through us. Everything we say is an opportunity for goodness to be shared and joy to be multiplied. We should shout with praise and gratitude for the gift of this opportunity. It will not only bring joy to others, but it will produce joy in us. We can ask God to fill us up and let the Holy Spirit intercede on our behalf in every conversation. In this way, “a timely word,” will most certainly be spoken.

A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!

Proverbs 15:23 NIV

Considerations for your planner:

  • Are you asking God boldly for the things you want? Write down the things you want to ask for, but have not yet.
  • Do you ask God to intervene in your conversations with others? Write down a time you got a word from God through someone else.

A Story of Asking for Joy:

I have been struggling with anxiety/depression for a while now and every time I have tried to reach out for help I continued to run into obstacles. Finally, I took the time to really sit down and talk with God.

The next day I was able to make an appointment with my PCP and my therapist was able to squeeze me in for a chat. She was even willing to help me talk with my PCP about getting on an antidepressant for the time being.

God reminded me that I am NOT ALONE! All I had to do was reach out to Him. He is so good! My joy is found in Him.
