Patience Drives Self Control

Patience Drives Self Control

God has called us to patience in our journeys. In times when we are faced with the option of confrontation He says, “Better a patient person.” It is in our patience that we can listen for His direction more closely.

Following God is so much about our discernment to listen for His guidance. When we are like warriors, charging into everything, we lack discernment.

The world has taught us to take without regard. To have the stance of a warrior at every opportunity. Patience that gives way to discernment is not valued, as it does not implore immediate action. This is yet another way the enemy keeps us distracted from focusing on God.

However, we are called to a higher way of living. God wants us to be one with self control so that we may know what He is nudging us towards. In this way we can stay in step with His plan, rather than diverging and having our misstep knock us off course.

Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.

Proverbs 16:32 NIV

Considerations for your planner:

  • In what ways do you see patience in your life? How does this patience inform your self control? Write down the last memory you have of your patience and how it gave you self control in that situation.

A Prayer for Our Community:

Father, Help us to have patience and self control. These are not easy qualities to maintain in the world’s culture. Elevate us above the world. Bring us into alignment with Your thinking. We know that with Your strength we are able to do all things. Our prayer is that those things are patience and self control. Amen.
