Surrender is Our Greatest Defense

Surrender is Our Greatest Defense

Letting God work His will in us is active surrender. It is our greatest defense against the devil. It is only when we keep God close and know His will for us that the devil makes himself scarce. We know His will for us in the trust we hold by keeping Him close. Each time we say yes to God in His direction for our lives He is there for us. Keeping our defenses strong against the enemy. When we stay on our knees with God He brings us to our feet in everything we endeavour to in our lives. “I touch the sky when my knees hit the ground.” (Hillsong United, Touch the Sky) It is time we get serious about our faith life. Our Master always wants us near Him. It is only when we submit fully to Him that our plans can truly be made a way for, because the devil has fled from the lives he knows he has no sway in.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7 NIV

The world does not teach us to keep a cool head. It teaches us to be over zealous and passionate about everything that stirs an emotion in us. However, we are instructed to, “stay alert and of sober mind.” In this way we are able to be aware of the attacks the enemy attempts to hatch on us. The enemy is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch us napping. We must keep our guard up. We only do this by keeping God’s words at that ready for every attack that is made. The devil is sneaky. This is why we cannot rest on our laurels. Keeping a firm grip on our faith will ensure we are ready for whatever temptation comes our way. Standing firm in our faith will bring forth the great plans He has for us. He will put us back together, apart from the world, and on our feet, ready to do all the plans He created us for.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8 NIV

Considerations for your planner:

  • Have you committed time to God today? Take a moment to write one of these scriptures down 3 times to commit it to memory so that you have it when the enemy comes knocking.
  • What emotion do you tune into regularly? Write it down and stay alert to when it arises so that you can turn it over to God.

A Story of Staying Alert:

I have struggled with suicidal ideations in my past. It has been a very difficult and challenging road to keep these thoughts at bay. They can be powerful and overpowering. They have led to panic attacks and debilitating feelings.

When I think back on them now I know that it is only because of God’s presence in my life that I made it through. For years when panic would set in or triggers would happen the voices in my head would get so loud. It always became a battle for truth in my mind for what was real.

I am grateful for my relationship with God. I made Him the center of my life. He is the priority everyday. It has been through this focus on Him in my life that I have been able to know what is true and real. I am not plagued by horrid thoughts anymore. I am always ready for the battle as I am alert to the enemies game. I have felt the devil flee from life. Thank you God!
