We are designed to react when someone is doing something wrong toward us. This is why Peter pulled out his sword when the soldiers were taking Jesus. However, the ways of God do not give in to the ways of the flesh. His ways can see above what our flesh would have us do. This is why Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword away.” He knew this was His Father’s plan and thus had to be carried out. Jesus showed us what true obedience looks like. He showed us that what we are called to do might not make sense to the world, but that we must trust in our Father in Heaven. He is always working everything for our good (Romans 8:28).
Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”
John 18:11 NIV

A Prayer for Our Community:
Father, we thank You that You have a plan for our lives. Help us to speak with You often to be reassured of Your plan for us. We want to rid ourselves of this sense of entitlement, so that we do not fight back when the world taunts us. We pray that You would fortify in us self control so that the world can see You in our ways. Thank You for Your humility and sacrifice so that we may live and have life eternally. In Your name we pray. Amen.
